One with nature

Growing up and indeed through most of my adulthood, I have enjoyed exploring the natural beauty and tranquillity of the great outdoors. I have travelled to many different parts of the UK. However, most of my journeys have been in the county of Kent, my home.

Although I have been to France twice, I always felt there was more to explore at home. You don't really need to travel too far to enjoy nature, and it has always puzzled me to think that people spend lots of money to travel to another country when there is plenty to explore on their own doorstep for next to nothing if you do. This is not to say that I won't ever visit a foreign land again, but this is only likely if I am visiting friends or family, which is on my bucket list.

However, there was a period of time when I didn't leave my town due to work and family commitments, and so, I lost so much time spent with nature. I remember hearing a fox for the first time and not knowing what it was. I remember thinking how terrible the sound was (if you know, you know), and I realised how disconnected from nature I was. I desperately wanted to reconnect with the natural world.

The thing I enjoy most about hiking and exploring nature is the contrast with mundane city life. I can spend a weekend or maybe a week away in a tent, simply switching off from my normal life and when I return, I feel much better in myself and ready to deal with people that would otherwise push me to murder (I'm sure you can relate)

Spending time in nature constantly reminds me of how fragile and fleeting life is and that time is precious. Everything has its season. We humans as a whole are far too materialistic. We prize our favourite belongings and forget what the most important thing in life is... LIFE! We're born the same and die the same. All we have to leave behind is our legacy.

My legacy is to learn and explore bushcraft and survival and share the beauty of nature with others. To show people that there's more to life, no matter how fleeting.
